What's New

Carbon monoxide

1. Buy and install a carbon monoxide detector. Replace the batteries regularly.

2. The detector is your second line of defense. Here’s how to prevent carbon monoxide from leaking into your home in the first place:

  • If you heat your home with oil, gas, or wood, ensure the appliance and the venting system are installed and functioning properly. Call your service company. Ask them to use these checklists.
  • Ensure that your home ventilation system works properly. A Ventilation Advisor can help you.
  • Never idle your car near fresh air intakes or in a garage!
  • Do not use unvented fuel heaters inside your home.
  • For more practical information on carbon monoxide, prevention, symptoms, and what to do in case it happens in your home, visit CMHC.
